2. 배경

세계보건기구(WHO)는 2020년 1월 12일에 2019년 12월 31일 WHO에 보고된 중화인민공화국 후베이성 우한시의 집단 호흡기 질환의 원인이 신종 코로나바이러스임을 확인했다.[3][4] 초기에는 우한화난수산물도매시장이 발병의 근원지로 지목되었으나, 실험실 확정 결과가 나온 첫 사례들 중 일부는 시장과 연관성이 없었고, 전염병의 근원은 알려져 있지 않다.[55][56]

COVID-19는 2003년 사스보다 치명률은 훨씬 낮았지만,[5][6] 전파력은 훨씬 더 커서 전체 사망자 수가 상당했다.[7][5]

3. 1. 2020년

2020년 3월 14일, 스페인 마드리드에서 귀국한 말라보의 42세 여성이 적도 기니의 첫 코로나19 확진자로 기록되었다.[60] 3월 17일에는 2건의 추가 확진 사례가 확인되었다.[9]

3월 22일, 적도 기니 정부는 코로나19 확산을 막기 위해 필요한 경제적, 물적 자원 동원을 용이하게 하기 위한 비상사태를 선포했다. 또한 바이러스 억제를 위한 특별 비상 기금도 조성되었다.[61]
